Important Role of ASEAN and the Community in Implementing Social Identity
Regional dynamics are always interesting to observe. Indonesia, as one of the pioneers in regional organizations such as ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), certainly cannot be separated from any joint signs and actions on behalf of ASEAN regionalism. Therefore, ASEAN and Indonesia are like houses and roofs, if one does not exist it will not be perfect.
Although ASEAN has been around for a long time even before I was born, I can feel the important role of ASEAN as an organization that aims to promote economic growth, social progress and cultural development of its member countries, promote peace and stability at the levelregion, as well as increasing the opportunity to discuss differences among its members peacefully.
I interpret ASEAN as a medium for the youth of each member country to convey all aspirations and bright ideas for the progress of the nation in the future. ASEAN can also be a forum for youth from each member country to be able to act more communicatively and interactively in exchanging ideas, expanding communication networks, and strengthening the brotherhood between youths who will later be prepared as potential leaders and agentsquality changes.
From time to time, global competition has become more intense. ASEAN leaders always make various efforts so that ASEAN can adapt to the changes that occur. I am very aware that advancing the Southeast Asian region is not only the task of state officials, but the task of all groups of society. As a youth, one of the efforts I could do is to use and apply analytical data to navigate the process of connecting between youth, also between youth and government. So that later a global community can be formed that is able to provide solutions to achieve the SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) in their respective countries.
In addition, the entire ASEAN community must apply the values of tolerance in the form of mutual respect and respect for one another. It is important to remember that ASEAN is not only a politically constructed organization, but there are Southeast Asian cultural values that are integrated into the ASEAN identity which will help the process of socializing ASEAN. So far, this narrative has only been understood by a few groups such as the government, youth, media, and academics.
